There were several slave rebellions before the Civil War, - ie, google
Nat Turner and Virginia for instance. What happened was that the
entire system in the south was geared towards preventing and
suppressing that possibility. I think the only successful slave
rebellion was Hati, because the controlling mechanisms weren't as
strong.
