but, electricity won't work silently in the background to undermine
your support base and spread anti-you propaganda if it doesn't agree
with your politics or if you're not in electriticty's pocket.

See, there's a problem with comparing the US to electricity; in an
ideal system, electricity is only produced when it is needed for
consumption. It won't pre-emptively strike your house, tearing out the
walls and floor with shock and awe in the middle of the night to
replace the toaster in your kitchen with a better more efficient and
democratically elected model that in a few years from now might be
ready to take over toasting/broiling duties.
