I have read that they will obey better if you do not allow them on the
furniture. Our last dog listened to me (who shooed her off) but not to
my daughter who did not. Our current dog definitely considers me the
alpha but listens to the daughter since that is who feeds her. This
tells me it may depend on the dog. One thing though is true. Dogs are
pack animals. Whoever they consider to be leader of the pack, they
need to understand that it is one of the humans ;)
