That doesn't make sense to me. Proteins and fats make you sleepy while carbs 
wake you up. Instant energy. What is the logic that it's reversed?

This depends on the type of carb. Sugars AKA simple carbohydrates, yes they can 
provide quick but short lived energy.  On the other hand, complex carbohydrates 
must be broken down and converted into the simple carbohydrates that the body 
uses.  This digestion takes energy before it can create energy, thus if you 
don't have energy to spare the sleepies.  How much energy depends on the 
complexity of the carbohydrates.  High glycemic(sp?) complex carbohydrates are 
easier to convert into sugars then lower glycemic complex carbohydrates.  

Thus the idea to get through a long period between meals is some simple carbs 
to get started, high glycemic carbs for the middle period and low glycemic 
carbs for the long haul.  But not many people care to put that much thought 
into their meals.

Also more, smaller meals instead of fewer big meals will change this concept in 
fundamental ways.
