That doesn't make sense to me. Proteins and fats make you sleepy while carbs wake you up. Instant energy. What is the logic that it's reversed?
This depends on the type of carb. Sugars AKA simple carbohydrates, yes they can provide quick but short lived energy. On the other hand, complex carbohydrates must be broken down and converted into the simple carbohydrates that the body uses. This digestion takes energy before it can create energy, thus if you don't have energy to spare the sleepies. How much energy depends on the complexity of the carbohydrates. High glycemic(sp?) complex carbohydrates are easier to convert into sugars then lower glycemic complex carbohydrates. Thus the idea to get through a long period between meals is some simple carbs to get started, high glycemic carbs for the middle period and low glycemic carbs for the long haul. But not many people care to put that much thought into their meals. Also more, smaller meals instead of fewer big meals will change this concept in fundamental ways. -------------- Ian Skinner Web Programmer BloodSource www.BloodSource.org Sacramento, CA "C code.
