Ikea has a pretty broad range - from bottom of the line particle board crap to real wood stuff. A lot of the real wood stuff comes ready to finish - so you can either stain or paint it. They have a lot of "modular" type of furniture, where you buy this and that and the other and construct your new computer desk or hutch or what have you.
The styling of Ikea is all fairly clean lines. It's somewhat "mod" in feel. I like their stuff for some things. It'd be great in a kid's room, for example. But, I don't think I'd be outfitting my main living spaces with Ikea unless I was on a really strict budget.
