Not to make any comment on the 2nd Amendment, but I doubt passengers having 
blades would have changed the outcome of 9/11.  The first three planes where 
operating on the established "Terrorist hijack" mode of take the plane, land 
somewhere and start making demands.   

The last plane, where the passengers got the information that this was not a 
normal hijack and did act, blades would not have help.  According to 
information I have seen in documentaries, the passengers overwhelmed the 
terrorists in the cabin.  But they could not get through the locked cockpit 
door before the terrorists could dive the plane into the ground.  I don't see 
how a pocket knife or even a larger one would have helped with that door.  

And a gun, shooting blind through a closed door and not take out critical 
controls and/or the windshield thus making the plane unflyable.  Same overall 
result isn't it?
