I actually agree as well - circumstances matter.  There's a difference
between emotional release and reasoned consideration.

I would defend this man's right to speak without reprisal.  I feel very
strongly that this is an ideal worth honoring.  At the same time if somebody
was yelling in a window's face near me I'd deck him as well.

That predicating action isn't the statement of an opinion or an argument in
a debate: it's an attack (albeit a verbal one) on an individual already in
pain.  Of course emotion wins out.

Arguments devolving to emotional standards are common but not really
helpful.  If you're opposed to the death penalty there's always somebody to
ask how you feel if it was your daughter/wife/mother who was raped and
murdered.

This is a powerful argument because it taps the emotional response.  Ideals
can't be argued in that way however.  The whole point of ideals is that
they're hard to defend and even harder to obtain.
