They are in the thrall of a horrendous, self-defeating strategy- they are
effectively a death-cult society bent on the destruction of Israel. That
doesn't mean everyone is enthralled by the ideals of this movement, but it
sounds awfully familiar to what happened in Germany in 1933. Similar
conditions- a national sense of humiliation, poor economic conditions, and
militaristic thugs ready to exploit the situation.

What is worrying is that in Germany in 1933, the majority was not in favor of
the Nazis, while among the Palestinians the majority is clearly behind Hamas
and their policy goals.

In some ways I think this is a useful development, because it makes official
what has been the de-facto situation for a long time. The Palestinian people
have never been a true partner for peace, always negotiating on the one hand
while launching terrorist attacks on the other. Now, Hamas will be forced to
form a government, and that new Palestinian government will be cut off
diplomatically and economically.
