I don't think I would want my child being watched by some of the people you are describing ;) Remember that the parent is responsible for the quality of the child care, and if your toddler wanders into traffic while Ms Baby Phat jeans is doing her nails, then you, my dear, are the one that gets charged with child neglect. The guvmint made me do it is unlikely to get much sympathy, or to do the child much good if it gets hurt. Hell, the state of Maryland can't even collect child support from people who WANT to pay it -- I sure as hell don't want it picking babysitters for me.
My point is simply that in this as in many things, it is more complicated than that. I agree that the system has been a failure, though I think it has improved a little, but not enough. I think we should start by reforming the foster care system to make it a viable alternative. Then, if actual neglect takes place, there is an alternative. I am not sure what "no I am not" refers to but I suspect it was my earlier remarks. Yes, there are irresponsible people out there, but imho more women that we think want to do the right thing, or why have the child at all? Those that don't, well, they don't deserve the subsidy at all. >> No, I'm not. I am saying that the current system is a dismal failure >> and it is the government's fault. I am also pointing out that there >> are a lot of people out there who are just plain and lazy and >> irresponsible, and continuing to give them (our) money is just plain >> wrong. >> > >Maureen For PRESIDENT!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:194947 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
