I got the Infrant ReadyNAS 600 from NewEgg.com and four 400 GB Seagate
drives. $600 for the NAS and $800 for the drives (I've been saving for this
for a long while...) ;^)

(I didn't think I'd be able to get it - the fund I had set aside for it was
re-earmarked for a car for me after the move in June. But my mother-in-law
gifted me her old car so I'm set on that count.)

The unit was simple to set up (although they've a newer unit that has truly
hot-swap drive accessibility - this one has to have the cover removed to get
at the drives). I popped the drives in and it automatically started working
- for a looooong time. ;^)

About 30 minutes to initialize the drives for the first time and then four
hours to synchronize the RAID 5 array. With the four drives I ended up with
about 1100 Gig of storage.

It then took... well, about four hours to transfer everything over from two
machines and a couple of external drives.

I really this box however - it's Linux Based and several companies are
writing extensions for it. It already support four different media server
standard and several more are coming (including a "Twonkymedia" server which
is supposedly compatible with the XBox 360).
