On the topic of rice cookers - I have two that were given as gifts. They're
nice, but useless since I found that cooking rice is one of the easiest
things to do ever - once someone explains it.

Rice-water ratio: 1:2 - for every cup of rice, use 2 cups of water.

Boil the water in a pan. Salt it if you'd like. When the water is boiling,
put the rice in, stir it all up to ensure everything is mixed well, and
cover it. Turn the heat down to medium-low and leave it there until the
rice is done. Don't touch the rice until it is cooked. That's it. Don't
ever stir, mix or otherwise disturb the rice. That's the secret. There's
no reason to get a rice cooker. Rice is the easiest thing in the world to
make.
