Pakistan is not an Arab country. It's ethnically Indian but Muslim. This is
it's only connection to the rest of the Muslim world. It has nukes but has
not exported them to other countries. Is it free? Freer than just about
every other Muslim country this side of Egypt.
But that brings up the question of Egypt. They publish anti-Semitic cartoons
all the time in the government controlled press but is considered by most an
ally of the west. It has a peace treaty with Israel, but it's a very cold
peace if peace at all. It has some freedom but not as much as America or the
EU. It has had some small protests but not many and not large at all.
The point is, the only protests seen in the Arab world are small ones in
more western Muslim countries. Why? Maybe because the rule of law is
enforced over religious law. Maybe because there has been some rather heavy
crackdowns on the extremists in these countries. The extremists in these
countries think of the government as allies or lackeys of the west and
should be overthrown. This has lead to some strict controls over
demonstrations and a greater impact of rule of law.
Lets name these countries off. Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan. All secularly
controlled countries.
And who has been pushing this boycott and associated riots. Our good friend
and religiously controlled Saudi Arabia. The country that has no Christians
in it because they don't let anyone practice ANY religion other than Islam.
Even when we had troops there, they were not considered Christians and if
they were caught worshipping there was trouble. But that's neither here nor
there. We don't care about the intolerance of Muslim countries. We care
about the intolerance of a western one.
