And the world has the right to protest offensive behavior. No one has rioted over Iran, Saudi Arabia or Egypt's anti-Semitic or anti-American cartoons. No one has killed over the various sites that I can find showing Jesus in various non-flattering positions (some sexual). When a show offended people, it was protested against and was removed, for good or ill. When a country like Egypt puts on vile, anti-Semitic television programs, then people can and should protest. But here's the basic difference. The Danish newspaper was an independent entity publishing pictures IN CONTEXT of an article. When Iran shows a fake 'documentary' showing how Jewish doctors steal Arab eyes for their own kids, it is not independent but from a government controlled media. In the first, the newspaper is responsible and the editor can (and maybe should) be fired for the offense. In the second it's the actual government that should be fired.
So what is your solution? Not showing any picture of Muhammad? Wouldn't work as you would then have to ban any religious picture to be balanced. Not show Muslims in context of terrorism as some of the pictures did? Well, that's also a problem as there are some Muslims that just keep performing terrorist attacks and it has to be showcased. Not write articles about how people are afraid of Muslims (which is basically what the article was about)? Give me a solid solution to this that would work. Show me how the Muslim world can be appeased in this without us cutting our own throats when it comes to the liberties we've worked so hard for. > So you are saying that the press has a right to publish whatever it > desires free of all responsibility.
