The practice is called praying for intercession. Basically asking the saint to "put in a good word" for you to God. It is _not_ worshipping saints. It is _not_ idol worship. > but Catholics do tend to have a lot of statues > of saints and they pray to saints. yes, we do "tend to have a lot of statues," some of the greatest works of art in the history of the planet... >I can certainly see how someone might > construe that as worshipping idols. So by that logic, Praying(intercession, saintName) = worship(idol) Does the consuming of the "body of Christ" also denote cannibalism? Really, this formula really only works if those calculating ignore what is actually going on. > I was told by a strong Catholic girl that they pray to saints because "the > saints are closer to God than regular people." And yes, saints are considered (by Catholics) "closer to God," hence their designation as Saints. will -- "If my life weren't funny, it would just be true; and that would just be unacceptable." - Carrie Fisher ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:196326 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
