I think being able to accept that people will make jokes about you
that you don't like is an absolute requirement if you choose to be a
celebrity. Granted it's harder to reneig on celebrity status once
you've got it, but Johnny Dep for example is nearly off the radar now
in spite of still making the occasional film. It wouldn't be difficult
for him to fade into general obscurity if he simply chose not to
Hollywood anymore. So if a joke like that (and yeah, I can understand
why Cruise specifically would be upset) really offends you imo the
answer is to choose not to associate with the show and/or talk about
it with your over-paid therapist. I still think it's hipocritical of
Hayes, but I'm willing grant that it's an acceptable decision. I don't
think putting legal or social pressure on the producers of a satire is
really acceptable.
