Yep. Not defending Apple. Just interesting history.

I used to be a huge Mac guy when they really were the most advanced
personal OS, but when they they knew they needed a ground up rewrite
of the OS at 7.5 and then continued nursing the old codebase through
9, I knew it was time to look for something else. I was already using
Win98 for games and when WinXP came out, I was thrilled. I was beta
testing OS X too, but didn't like what it offered compared to WinXP so
I ditched the Mac completely.

Apple now is definitely having identity problems. They're at niche
marketshare levels, but don't have a solid niche audience other than
general advocates. The traditional stronghold of the design market
isn't it anymore. The design products reached parity between Mac and
Windows years ago, and there's no Mac exclusive innovation in that
market. So they're selling at niche levels but are selling a general
purpose, not niche, product. I don't see the future in it. But
strangely, Apple stock always proves me wrong.
