If you use tile, you will need a solid, concrete foundation anyway. You
will probably have to pull up the heaved (?) concrete and replace it for
your tile to lay flat.

Have you considered brick pavers instead of concrete? You'd have to
make sure you have good drainage away from your pool otherwise the sand
under the pavers would get in the pool.

I would also be afraid that tile, such as bathroom tile, would be very
slick near your pool. I'm thinking of the smooth glazed tile. I'm also
thinking of kids running and busting their noggins open.

I think a well-poured cement surround would probably be your best bet.
There are so many concrete options to spruce it up: Colored cement and
patterns you can lay on the concrete to simulate stones or bricks or
what-no.

Subject: Question about pools

Hi All,

The house my wife and I bought in December has a fairly large in-ground
pool (approx 12x32). The outside of the pool is all concrete and it is
showing its age as well some as cracks from frost heaves. I'd like to
replace the concrete with something more visually appealing. My wife and
I have been tossing around the idea of using some sort of tile but I'm
not too sure about the durability of tile outside, especially in a cold
weather climate.

Any ideas on alternatives to tile?

Thanks,
Duane
