Heh, LOL. No, I wasn't trying to ding Honda at all, I wouldn't
hesitate to buy one. Despite my bad experience I write my problem off
as random Gremlins.

Having worked in operations/manufacturing environments I've seen that
any type of machine can fall prey to any number of issues not at the
fault of the manufacturer (who's trying to meet a price point).

For example, a heater core provided by Bosch arrives with a
microscopic fracture. It tests ok, but the pressure of the test
weakens it to failure. Once installed in the car, the few miles the
car is driven before being sold doesn't reveal the problem, but a new
owner discovers lots of fog in the car. After extensive
troubleshooting the problem is discovered.

And this problem is now part of a Consumer Reports "statistic". And
you probably can't even blame Bosch because the fracture could've been
caused by a plastic that hadn't been tested against a new mold.

Anyhoo - the point is, I don't pay attention to CR because they don't
qualify their data. If I have the impression that a manufacturer has
a *process* problem, then I'll hesitate. CR doesn't tell you that so,
to me, it's random noise.

(Thus my 'anecdotal' comment. Real quality data would be based on
defects in workmanship, not consumer complaints.)
