I think this comes from the US Politically Correct movement. Don't want to call anyone Fat,everyone's ok and no one is responsible for anything really.
Not to mention the US food Industry does not want Obesity to suddenly be seen as a huge public problem since all research indicates that it is because of MSG laced foods and the intentional use of fats in every common food item that contributes heavily to the problem. Yes people are responsible for themselves, but when the cheapest most widely available items are designed to make you eat more, and to get you fat when you do it eat ,that must also be taken into account. However, the US government passed a law which prevented any organisation or individual for suing the food companies over the content of their food causing health problems, Obesity being one of them.
