Of course it is - that's the whole basis of our country: law and order
with a separation of church and state.  Nobody has to attend any type
of church or any church at all.

Religion is voluntary so those that seek it would abide by the law
anyway.  Religion simply provides them with a framework and weekly
checkpoint to make them feel better.  Another word for that is
"culture".

For example, I don't know about you, but whenever I travel abroad I
start to think about McDonald's and cheeseburgers.  I don't even eat
them that much, but I start wanting a piece of "home" because it makes
feel grounded and gives me a base to branch out from.

The same thing is true for many people - except they fear the change
even within their own town.  So church provides them with a sense of
base they need to feel secure.

I used to be a Church Counselor and this was the theme behind just
about every issue.

Your point is like saying that, without cake, the World would abandon
dessert altogether.  Nope - those that like cake would just find
another favorite, but it'd still be dessert.
