But that wasn't my point.  That would've been gravy, but it's the
effort that counts.

For example, let's say you want to buy the new Honda lawn mower with
the Xenoy deck, but are unsure if your spouse will approve.  Do you:

(a.) Buy it and deal with his/her wrath later.
(b.) Tell your spouse you're going to buy it and then do it without
regard for their opinion.
(c.) Discuss it with your spouse, explain the "need" and why this is
the best course of action, and then make a joint decision.

I don't know about you, but I'm all about (c).

Let's say you did go with (a).  Your spouse couldn't accuse you of
buying something that technically wasn't needed, but they'd still be
pissed.
