What union would the church recognize that the gov't would?

This is exactly what I was proposing, in case I wasn't clear on that.
'Cept
for the part about the religious rite as a recognition of the civil
union...the two would be completely separate, in that religion could
recognize a union that is NOT recognized legally, and vice versa.
