Plural marriages? Since they would have no legal standing, just
spiritual and social standing, they would no longer be forbidden,
would they?

Gay marriages? Again, since they convey no rights in this life,
nothing to prevent the Unitarian church to continue to marry people,
regardless of what the civil side ends up doing.

At one point, churches allowed mixed-race marriages, even when the
local government didn't.
