File a claim, not likely to go up. But there is a chance you will be
dropped when the policy is up. And, if you change companies, you will pay
$$$ to get insured.

Five years ago, a neighbor had a tree fall on his roof and did about $6,000
in damages. He filed a claim with his insurance company and the adjusted
told him that he can file the claim, but it would be wise to pay for it
himself. My neighbor said screw that! I pay for insurance, so fix it! The
insurance company paid to remove the tree.

About 1/2 a year later, he gets a letter from the insurance company that
says they will not be offering him a renewal on his policy. So he had to
find another company.

His premium went from $400 a year to $1950, with the cheapest quote one he
could fine.

File a claim, no matter how small or who is at fault, and you get screwed.

I ran that by my insurance agent when I bought my house and she said
basically, the insurance is there incase your house is completely destroyed.
Made me feel comfortable when I was signing the paper work.

I know nothing about insurance premiums, but hail really can't be considered
your fault, right? Not like an accident. So, why would your premium go up?

I have a sis who is a claims adjuster, I just fired her an email to see if
she might have an answer.
