I picked up CF myself when I saw people on the Allaire forums raving about it (longtime Homesite user). Definitely that first cfquery had me hooked! At the time I was running some dog event calendars and school listings that were being updated manually by hand and I saw immediately the potential to save myself a lot of time and trouble. Those first ColdFusion applications I wrote are still in use today (http://cleanrun.com/infocenter.cfm) although certainly updated and added to along the way. Thankfully I don't have anything to do with them anymore so don't have to look at my less-than-stellar coding. ;-)
CleanRun also was my first ecommerce site...we were using a crappy Perl script that passed all the information in the form and had to be manually updated. I couldn't find any decent ecommerce product worth buying and could do what we wanted, so that became the basis of CFWebstore. Funny thing is, all my early clients were other dog-related sites since I am so active in that community.
