Potato guns were OK, but the home-built cannon we loved was 3 of the metal tennis ball cans held together with EB Green tape.
Lighter fluid, a can opener, tennis balls, and matches. And, just once, a bullfrog astronaut and a catchers mitt (they were buried together in a lovely ceremony).
