I recall experiencing a similar problem when installing RH last... that's why I'm now using Mandrake!! :^) Sorry, that doesn't help your current problem one bit.
can you run fdisk, and set the active partition? Alternately, go for the 5th install, and create a boot floppy so at least you'll be able to boot the machine. With the stability of Linux, you shouldn't have to boot too often! :^) Sorry I can't be of much more help than that... I haven't run into too many problems!
