Right...people don't look at the environmental effects of having a hybrid, just
what it means financially. If they don't see it saving them money, they
generally won't buy it. That's what I mean about someone having the financial
means to do something...it's seldom a matter of whether or not they *can*
afford it. They just look at the fact that it *does* cost more. If someone has
a few extra thousand to put into a vehicle, they'd rather put it into things
like a sunroof or fancy stereo than paying for hybrid technology. And it really
is human nature, we care more about things that effect us in the here-and-now
than things that might impact us many years down the road.

That's why expecting consumers alone to impact the auto industry just won't
work. It has to be legislated. We need to demand our government pass strict
efficiency laws or this just won't change.

Well, the ones I've looked at recently certainly can tow, you just can't tow
quite as much with them. Toyota's Highlander Hybrid for instance I believe is
rated for 3000 pounds. It certainly is available with any of the features their
regular model is but yes, availability can be a problem, because again, not
enough people are demanding them.
