Most likely, yes. However, those people will *always* be around. Are we supposed to never allow a minority to run as a result? I think such people are really on the fringe these days and the behavior you describe, racial ads and such, would not at all be tolerated. And quite simply, we will *have* to go through it at some point. If the man is the best-qualified candidate, then it *would* be a crime to be to deny him the opportunity because of his race and because we are afraid of ourselves. Just look at my old home state of Virginia...first state to elect an African American governor (Doug Wilder), even though it's a fairly solidly red state. Even though his race was very close and required a recount for him to be declared victor, none of these things you describe happened. What they *did* note however was that the polling was less accurate than typically...an effect that most likely was due to the race issue.
