Well, currently I'm doing lots of physical therapy. Does that count?
The original diagnosis was IT Band syndrome, but now they're thinking
that it might be a pinched nerve in my low back. I've been fighting it
for the last few months, and let me tell ya, it's getting old.

Yesterday I threw caution to the wind and went sledding for an hour
and half with my son. Totally not on my recovery plan. But, some
things just need to happen, ya know?

In a normal winter, I'd be X-country skiing for an outdoor activity,
along with the running, swimming and stationary biking. Right now I'm
limited to pool walking, swimming (with no kicking), and upper body
weights, along with a ton of specific low-body exercises and
stretches. I've been on the super restriction for the last 3 weeks,
before that I was still running some. (I was training for the Arizona
half-marathon when it flared up. *sigh* That came and went this past
weekend.)

I don't do much of anything special with my diet - lots of whole
grains, not enough fruits and veggies (though I try). I limit the
refined sugar intake, don't do caffeine, don't do artificial
sweeteners, and don't eat red meat. I don't eat much meat at all. So,
most of my protein comes from beans and soy and such like that. I
drink a ton of water - no soda, very rarely juice. I don't do alcohol
except on special occasions.

In the midst of heavy training, I'll do some special stuff - like
having a recovery snack after a long workout (chocolate soymilk is
good), and having cliff bars for long bike rides. I had just bought
some honey stingers to use on long runs, but alas, I only got to do
one run long enough to warrant that before I was sidelined.

What a downer, eh?
