Basically, it initially presented just like IT Band syndrome, which if you're not familiar with that, it's pain in the outer hip, thigh, and knee, that worsens with certain activities. The IT band runs from your hip to just below your knee. Mine was extremely sore to the touch and "ropey" feeling (not to me, but to the therapist when she ran her fingers down it). The nerve stuff was that after doing a bunch of PT, I started having numbness in my calf that would travel down to my foot with certain movements, and pain in the insertion point of the hamstring (right under your butt cheek, basically), that radiated down my leg. Pain and numbness were worse after sitting long periods (hello, computer programmer lifestyle!), after running, and after compression and extension of the low back. So, basically, this past week she's had me doing a sort of modified cobra yoga pose every couple of hours, in sets of 10. Things have definitely improved, which means that it probably is a nerve in my low back, and that the stretch is working to "unload" it. Now, how to keep progressing and then not have it come back is another story. I should know more tomorrow.
