Makes me wonder if there is some group of the citizen population that
actually grew up thinking there is no right of habeus corpus in the
US? (oh and yes, I did consider racial groups before I made that
statement)

Or did somebody just wake up one day and say, "hey! I've got an idea!"

This all reminds me of the old Smothers Brothers comedy bit about
Freedom of Speech--when CBS was censoring their program--the jist of
it was, there may be freedom of speech, but nobody granted the Freedom
of Hearing...

honestly, I ran this past my Dad who is (with his law degree) the king
of 'if it is not expressly granted it is forbidden' and even _he_
(staunch conservative that he is) thinks Gonzales is way off on this
one.
