But do you think that this is common?  What percentage of, say, Firefox
users do think have ever looked at the source much less actually run custom
one-offs?

It is a valid argument (any truthful argument is valid), but I don't think
it's a GOOD argument.  Definitely not the first thing that should be said
about open source.

It is true, but again, for the vast majority of users it's a non-issue.
It's basic salesmanship: aim your arguments at things important to your
users.

You might - but again, most users will look to the vendor just as the would
for closed source.

This is actually a good thing for open source: consolidation of the
experience and expectations is a good thing.  Confidence in support is a
good thing.

Promote that, not what amounts to silly technical trivia for the vast
majority of users.
