Some of them actually claimed that menthol cigarettes would cure a cough. 

Of *course* tobacco companies lied to smokers. Where it didn't lie it was 
certainly misleading with all of the tricks in advertising. I'm astounded that 
this is still being litigated. Though I guess this is a racketeering case and 
the one I worked on was product liability... hmm.
