The definition of socialism is state ownership of the means of
production.

Communism is one of the socialist doctrines which goes with the idea of
the people own it with the end result of removing the class structure.

I think socialism still allows for some private industry and property;
it is just heavily regulated by the state.  I would think that communism
is more geared towards state ownership of property and means of
production.
