If there's a specific property on Maui that I has planning to spend whole vacation at then I'd do it, but if you want to adventure about, explore beaches, mountains, etc then the Big Island is where it's at.
Just a trip across Saddle road is big time for most people. That trip remains a highlight for me. Get a jeep! Then head up to the top of Mauna Loa is really want a scare. Plus it's cool to see the World's best observatories. If you plan it you can get a tour.
