Some of those numbers are outrageous and appear to be from faulty data. 2.5 million uses of a guns for defensive purposes each year? Get the hell out of dodge. Did the researchers get there entire sampling from the projects?
There are roughly 301 million Americans. According to the Census the average American household is 2.6 people. 301 million / 2.6 = 116 million households. 116 / 2.5 = 46.4. That means that according to these researchers 1: 46.4 households uses a gun for self defense every year. That is 6849 uses of a gun in self defense each and everyday. I would like more info, those numbers just seem a little high to me and I tend to support the right to bear arms. How many people are on this list? How many of you, in your household have used a gun in self defense in the past year? The past 5 years? Ever outside of those who have used guns as part of their job (Police, Military etc...) When I was 9 some guy came over our back fence. My dog was going nuts, I got up looked out the window saw a guy coming over the fence. I woke up my dad. He went to the closet, handed me a .30 caliber carbine told me to shoot the guy if got past the dog. He then went and called the police, while I sat looking out the window, down the barrel of the carbine. That was 36 years ago. I have lived in South Central Los Angeles, and lots of other crummy areas and have never again pointed a gun at someone, not for a lack of access to guns but for a lack of criminal targets. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| ColdFusion MX7 by AdobeĀ® Dyncamically transform webcontent into Adobe PDF with new ColdFusion MX7.
