No, veganism is a political movement that ignores reality. There is no health benefit from eating vegetable protein exclusively. It actually hurts us as it removes certain enzymes and amino acids we require that are only present in animal protein.
My urologist was adamant when he put me on a veggie diet for my kidney stones that I eat eggs and drink bovine milk daily. I also had to have a 3 oz portion of meat every other day. His preference was venison or buffalo as thier proteins did not convert to oxalic acid as easily, but anything was fine. He was concerned that I would not get the proper nutrition otherwise. Macrobiotics, according to him, were not sufficient. We evolved as omnivores. However, we are not to distantly removed from our carniverous past. We have pointed canine teeth and the enamel on our teeth is too thin to subsist on vegetable protein exclusively.
