Because the entire natural order of our planet has nothing whatsoever to do
with morals.  ;^)

Nature has no morals (even tho' it does have laws... >rimshot< ) - that's
something we created.

And we're good at it!  We can say "we shouldn't eat lesser animals because
we've evolved to the point that we know it's wrong!" or "you shouldn't eat
animals because they have the same thoughts and emotions as we do!" or
"we're smart enough not to need to kill animals!"

Even tho' all of those reasons (and all the others) are either incorrect (to
a greater or lesser extent) or unrealistically idealistic we're also the
only animals that can convince ourselves that something that feels wrong is
right.
