Have you ever gone hunting? Or how about fishing? I'm not going to try to explain to you. It's a way of life for millions of folks. I don't need to kill my own food either, but it hasn't stopped me from hunting pig, deer, elk, turkey and a variety of small game. The goal is always a one shot kill... But it just doesn't always work out that way.
Your invocation of killing puppies is a straw man and would fall on completely deaf ears in many parts of the world where dogs are food...
