Mary Jo,

I think were on the same side, what say we drop this line, and push all this
energy to ending Breed Specific Laws, and educating people about pit breeds?

Pit bull is an abbreviated form of the full breed name, and has been for
many years. Just as we call a Labrador Retriever a "lab" or my breed
Shetland Sheepdog a "sheltie". To say there is no such breed as a pit bull
is no different than saying there's no such breed as a lab. You might be
semantically correct, but you wouldn't find many knowledgeable dog people
that would agree with the statement.

>If you ask the average joe on the street what any of these breeds are

And the average joe is wrong. The fact that people mislabel other breeds as
pit bulls just shows all the more the need to educate them on the facts
about what a true pit bull is and what qualities it should have, and that
this is an old breed which has a long reputation as a wonderful companion
and family dog. It does the breed no service to just try and pretend it
doesn't exist.

Interestingly enough MSN just posted this article where they are quite
clearly referring to a "pit bull" and the APBT as one and the same.
