"Regardless, it sounds like it's time for a new host."

I agree whole heartedly with this, when you think about the expense of
dedicated hosting, I wouldn't expect anything other than EXCEPTIONAL service
from an ISP, I'm currently going through a migration myself after
plenty-a-downtime with my current host, I think I can see a legal battle
ensuing though as they're trying to hold me liable for the full term of the
contract.... not going to happen!

Find a host recommended by someone you trust, it's the safest way to go I
think.

Subject: RE: HELP needed..... your opion about hosting problem.

Not to pour salt in the wound but this does sound like yet another
cautionary tale of "NEVER, EVER put client variables in the Registry!"

I understand why the option is there but damn... you should need to solve a
maze or something to even enable it. It's just too dangerous.

Specifically I'm still not sure of some specifics:

Are you saying that you couldn't update the registry yourself because of the
problem or because you lack that capability. If the latter I would make a
case that it's their fault for not giving you enough access to YOUR server
to solve problems.

If the former I would still say that requiring a complete rebuild due to a
large registry seems really extreme. Even if the system was unbootable
there are ways to edit a registry hive on another machine that would have
saved time and money. It sounds like they cheaped out and just wanted to
apply the base image again rather than really work on the problem.

Regardless, it sounds like it's time for a new host.
