Like insurance companies? Isn't this exactly what THEY do?

Take somebody like your wife: is she a crazy driver? Then why insure
her for inflicting injury on others via car insurance? Because you've
decided that there's a RISK that she may harm someone to the tune of
$1M due to unforeseen circumstances and you don't want the injured
taking your assets.

Well, there's a RISK that Global Warming exists and will take our
assets. And there's only one way to insure against the risk: do what
we can to decrease the known and forecasted causes. Period.

BTW - the absolute dumbest argument is the "it's just a cycle"
argument. So when you spill hot coffee on your lap and plow into a
pedestrian try telling his lawyer that the pedestrians injuries were
simply caused by a natural cycle. I doubt it'll save your assets, but
it's worth a try.
