I really prefer my PocketPC. You're stuck with Flash Storage (SD or CF or both usually) but you get a ton of functionality. I listen to music while reading mostly. But I can also listen to music while doing crossword puzzles or watch a movie. Contacts, calendar, tons of games, etc. I even have a great little sketchpad application. For cheaper Flash-based drives the Sansa's REALLY attractive (and cheap). The new Zune's are also pretty spiffy (wireless synching through wi-fi can offset storage if you listen in a hot zone). For more storage the bigger Zunes are also pretty attractive. Older ones can be had cheap (as little as $99 if you're willing to pick up the brown one) and can be immediatley updated via firmware to the new version's capabilities. The newer ones come with more storage are much cheaper than iPods but more capable.
