The file sharing is essentailly uselss, but you can hardly blame MS for that.  
However the wiFi enabled synching and file transfers are pretty slick.

Because I hate iTunes with a passionate vengence and REALLY hate being locked 
into software I dislike just to use a piece of hardware that doesn't reasonably 
require it.

I much prefer a whole bunch of stores to buy from, many of which offer 
reasonable "all you can play" subscription deals.

I also like having a radio.

Since I'm a member XBox Live interoperability also sounds kind of cool.

I'd also like to have some money left over to actually buy music.  ;^)  I've 
seen (the well-reviewed and highly recommended) 4-Gig Sansa for less than $50 
in the wild and the new Zunes for less $100.

Why spend more for fewer features and less compatiblity?

I actually like the iPod hardware - I'm not in love with it, but it's clearly 
quality stuff.  Still can't stand the software tho'.  Still... if it can't play 
my music what good is it to me?
