I love the idea of free trade, as long as it is truly free.

But the rules on both sides need to be roughly equivalent to be fair.

Tariffs need to be similar on both sides.
Trade barriers need to be similar on both sides.

Our trade laws should _always_ either be in our favor, or at least
equal, with reciprocity as a standard trade tool.

For example, since on American can own land in Mexico, the same should
be true in reverse.
Since no American can hold a majority stake in a Japanese company, the
same should be true in reverse.
Since American trucks need to have insurance and working brakes, the
same should be true for Mexican trucks operating in the US (thanks
anyway, NAFTA)

Fortunately, actual coding is only a small part of software
development, and therefore we are not yet close to becoming a
commodity. We are a craft and an art, not a science or an industry.
But it will come someday. And by that time, we will all have other,
more interesting items on our plates, or we will be in trouble.

Personally, I am glad the industry has grown and changed. I don't have
to build hardware from parts catalogs anymore, I don't have to write
my own device drivers and I don't have to hand code my own cms.
