Beth- My wife complained that the Berkeley curriculum downgraded you if your project ideas had any relevance whatsoever to the real world :-)
She did all pencil-on-paper drafting in those days (graduated in 1977). Interesting, her first love was art. When the kids came along, she switched to a home-office doing residential remodels, expansion, some new construction. Fortunately, this was in the days before hyper-litigious clients. When the kids got to high school, she wanted to go back to an outside job but was virtually unemployable from not knowing CAD. Was actually taking an adult-ed AutoCAD class through the school district, when she found a company willing to train her on the computer because they saw the value of her design experience. I went through the business school at Berkeley, which also had little real-world relevance (except for Accounting). Ended up getting recruited directly out of college by Ross Perot's firm EDS. (Unlike Bugs, I *did* take that left turn at Albuquerque!) -Ben > -----Original Message----- > From: BethF [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Wednesday, March 13, 2002 9:51 AM > To: CF-Community > Subject: Re: Muffins vs. Muffins > > > I worked in the field for 6 months, drafting window details > in some big > firm. i had no knowledge how to draft (you don't learn that > in school) and > it was nothing like what i did in school, which was > challenging, creative > and interesting. > > I quit and went back to grad school to become an art teacher. > > That summer i had a temp job at a computer consulting firm. > They had the > 1.0 beta of access.
