As many have already said, hopefully there is other family to help. That is what happened for my 'uncle' Earnest. He was first taken care of by my great-grandmother then by my grandmother until she was in her 80's and he was in his 90's. There finally arrived a time when she could no longer care for him and he was put into a good home.
Amusing anecdote - After being in the home for about a week, my grandmother was visiting. Earnest overheard the word 'nursing home' and started begging to never be put into a home. My grandmother gently told him he had been living in a home for a week. Earnest thought for a second, looked around and replied "Oh... Well I like this place.'
