I'm with you there. I tried to explain to the family that we wanted a
small Christmas, and we did manage to pair down the adult gifts to
those of the "stocking stuffer" variety. But, everyone went way
overboard with the kids. (Not us, we only got them a couple things,
and that only because there was a fundraiser for the preschool and we
got things from that.) It really is toy overload.

My sister got my son a way cool gift, though - she got him a gift
certificate for www.kiva.org. The concept is still a little over his
head, and we haven't sat down with him to go through his options for
who he'd like to help. He's far too focused on "stuff" right now. But,
we'll sit down with him this weekend and help him pick out someone
that he wants to give the money to and talk to him about how the
program works.

I was standing in this shower this morning thinking that I need to
find some sort of volunteer work that we can do together. He's old
enough to start giving back.
