That's exactly what I need ... I'm not really *into* photography, but I'm
interested in learning more ... I'm tired of getting crappy shots from my
current digital camera because a.) I don't know enough and b.) I have to
wait for the camera to take the shot and by the time it does whatever cute
thing my dog/nephew/niece was doing is long over.

My head was spinning after learning about all the lenses and filters and
blah, blah, blah stuff that she recommended ... but I'm game to learn! And
she said pretty much the same thing -- it's a good "beginner's" SLR

Yeah, I'm pretty certain I would've gone for a D40 had it worked with
my older lenses.

It's a great starter setup, easy to use in auto mode, and configurable
enough once you get comfortable with it.
